Behavior Expectaions/Consequences

Classroom Rules and Expectations

Below is an explanation of the MICS Lower School Discipline Plan 2012-2013. This plan is the product of MICS teachers/administration and includes exploratory teachers. It is based on the following guiding principles:

  • Discipline will be proactive rather than reactive
  • Stakeholders will have ownership
  • Through classroom instruction and modeling, all students will be successful
  • Founded in building relationships between all stakeholders

Our classroom rules will be developed along with students using the division-wide student expectations:

  • I am respectful of myself and others
  • I am responsible for myself and my community
  • I am a proactive member of our community
  • I am a problem solver working for a positive solution
  • I am a learner dedicated to doing my best

Following school and classroom rules will result in various student acknowledgements and privileges which will be determined by each classroom teacher. Undesirable student behaviors will be addressed using the following four levels (in conjunction with exploratory teachers):

Level 1:  A verbal warning

Level 2: Teacher may select one of the following that will best help the student appropriately modify their behavior:

•In class time out (with grade level think sheet to be signed by parents)

•Note of apology

•Journal or e-mail reflection

•Loss of privilege for a portion of the school day

•Other appropriate logical consequence

Level 3 (with parent contact): Teacher may select one of the following that will best help the student appropriately modify their behavior:

•Time out in a buddy classroom

•Loss of privilege that extends for the duration of the school day or up to two days

Level 4:

•Office referral
